Hey there. My brother's PSU was packed up yesterday, so I got him an EVGA Gold+ PSU and installed it. He was getting 150fps in CS:GO now only reaches 80 max? I've checked everything... the only change was the PSU. Specs: FX 4170, MSI GTX 960, gaming motherboard, 16GB DDR3, 1866MHz. Anyone have suggestions?

Did you connect the display connector to the GPU? And is the GPU receiving power?

The GPU operates with sufficient energy. The monitor is connected directly to the GPU.

It looks like you're facing something new and confusing. Where exactly are you trying to focus?

I'm really frustrated. I've checked everything and still can't figure out why...

He likely increased the speed before and then his configurations were reinitialized.

Does the old system function properly? If it did, you might try reinstalling it and check if the frame rate matches 150. There are several options, such as resetting the CMOS and updating BIOS settings or reinstalling the game. However, neither of these changes would be caused by simply switching the power supply.

The old unit stopped working after smelling like smoke, then the computer cut off. I think the cooling fan blew out and overheated it. The only change was swapping out a new power supply, which seems unusual.

I considered resetting the GPU's OC configuration to its standard settings, and then reverting it. You seem to be using a monitor that displays voltage, clock speeds, and usage trends over time—perhaps checking fan performance as well. It’s possible a cable getting stuck in a fan could be limiting its cooling efficiency.

Verified voltage levels. No drops or spikes detected across all channels. All fans are functioning properly. GPU has been reset to standard reference card speeds.
