Performance drops after installing the new motherboard.
I own an ASUS M1603qa 16x laptop with a 5600h processor. Prior to the motherboard swap I achieved around 10,000 multicore and 1,400 single-core points. After replacement I’m seeing about 5,000 multicore and 1,000 single-core points. I’ve attempted a hard reset, factory reset, and BIOS update, but the issue persists. I suspect an EC firmware problem. Temperatures are normal, yet the CPU is only drawing up to 30 watts, whereas it previously ran above 54 watts.
It seems your RAM performance might be stuck at its standard settings. You'll have to adjust the values in your BIOS/UEFI to improve things.
Your processor once handled 54W but now only supports 30W, which will hurt performance—particularly with multiple cores. Adding to the issue, your RAM is running about 17% slower, making the overall speed drop significantly. It seems the motherboard was swapped out; it probably came in a different model than what you originally received.
Yes, the CPU remains identical. The motherboard was swapped with a third-party repair shop instead of going to ASUS service. I can share the HWINFO details if needed. I also learned my RAM is different—specifically, a Sk Hynix 2667MHz 16GB and 8GB module soldered together, which equates to 3200MHz.
I deleted the 16GB RAM and the benchmarks are still slow. Are there any updates for your laptop that aren’t available online?
