Performance drops after CPU upgrade.
Performance drops after CPU upgrade.
Hello, I’m facing some issues with my PC. I recently upgraded from an i3 4160 to an FX 8320 Black Edition, which I got for free from a friend. I only purchased the motherboard. Now my games are running choppy, even though CPU and GPU usage seem low. Temperatures are normal, and both GPU (50%) and CPU (35-40) with water cooling are within range. After installing the CPU and updating BIOS, the problem persisted. I mainly play Dota 2 on Ultra settings, but on my i3 it works fine. However, FPS drops significantly in certain areas—sometimes reaching 100 FPS, then falling to 60 or less when moving to the middle lane. During Horizon Zero Dawn, FPS is very low. My CPU usage hits 100% while gaming, but GPU usage stays at 40%. I’ve stress-tested both components and think they can reach full capacity. Someone suggested it might be RAM-related, so I’m considering upgrading. Could my GPU be limiting the CPU performance? Your specs are: a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P motherboard with an FX 8320 Black Edition GPU, water cooling, PSU 550W, 2x4 RAM at 1333 MHz. The benchmark says something about RAM, but I’m using 2x4. What advice do you have?
possibly i was wrong about the AMD FX lineup; they weren't known for strong gaming performance.
Sure, I aim to deliver something that's a step up from what you're currently using.
FX performs worse than your old i3 on GMAEs. On heavy tasks it's noticeably better, but it's significantly slower in games.

Hey everyone, just letting you know I'm bringing back the processor and setting up a new i3. Any tips for saving money on an upgrade?
