Hi everyone. Two weeks ago my PC started struggling heavily during games, especially Fortnite. Previously it ran smoothly with 120 FPS on a Ryzen 3 1200 and an Intel 1060. Now even playing with a friend causes massive lag, slowdowns, and audio issues. I suspect the CPU might be the issue, though I haven’t changed much in my setup—just added some studio gear like a mic and interface. Temperatures are normal, and the CPU temps are around 42°C at idle and 50°C during gameplay. Anyone have any suggestions?

Typically the game uses all of my CPU, showing 100% utilization per core. Usage drops from 90-100% to around 80% on the Core Temp monitor. In Task Manager it often locks in "System Interrupts" at a high level before the game reaches 90-100%. It's confusing since games previously ran smoothly but now fail completely. All drivers are up-to-date, though I'm concerned about an audio driver conflict. I don't see how that would consume so much CPU. Edit: Playing on an old HDD might be related. I also notice in Warzone walking with WASD works fine without stuttering, but turning around with the mouse causes issues.
Did you install a new USB device? Which version of Windows 10 are you using right now? I’m trying to estimate—likely it’s the same Windows build you’re on, possibly needing an update, or there might be a change in your USB setup (like a fresh mouse or hub). New mouse?
Yes, in older versions of Windows 10 (like build 2004) the issue might persist. Disconnect the USB audio, run the games, still experience lag? Open Task Manager on the desktop, check idle CPU activity, and see if mouse movement causes spikes.
