I recently started playing Destiny 2 for a short time and immediately noticed extremely poor performance. There were no changes to settings or driver updates since my last session. I usually run at 1440p with normal settings and expect around 90-100 fps. Now, regardless of resolution or adjustments, I’m getting only 40-50 fps with significant mouse lag. Other games perform well, using full GPU capacity as expected. Destiny, however, caps at 50% or less at 1440p and drops further with lower resolutions (around 20% at 720p). The CPU usage stays around 30% on any thread, which shouldn’t be an issue—especially since it previously ran fine while I was using Fin and all my other games still worked. I’ve cleared my GPU and CPU cache, reinstalled drivers (including DDU), reinstalled the game, and reset all my NVIDIA settings just to be sure. Still, I’m puzzled by this behavior and it only happens in this game.

I believe I encountered similar issues in other games too. I just confirmed the installation through Steam to resolve it, but in your situation completely removing the game and then reinstalling might be beneficial.

Have you experimented with different driver versions? Perhaps an older model or a beta release? These abrupt shifts often stem from updates. It could mean the driver was upgraded or Windows itself changed. Or maybe it's due to a game patch.

I received a Windows update, but I'm unsure if it's the cause. None of my other games are affected.
