Performance dropped following the latest GPU build.
I previously owned an i9-9900k 3080ti with 32GB DDR4 at 3600MHz. Now I have an i7-12700k 3080ti with 32GB DDR5 at 5200MHz. I've observed a notable drop in frame rates compared to before. When benchmarking against online videos, I see a difference of around 20 frames per second. In some examples, Cyberpunk 1440p Ultra with DLSS should reach ~70fps, but I'm getting about 55. For Battlefield 2042 1440p Ultra (RTX off) with DLSS disabled, it's around 80, versus ~100 expected. Dying Light 2 shows GPU usage near 80% instead of full utilization. I'm trying to figure out what's causing this performance drop and would appreciate any help.
Are you certain this setup is delivering better results? Have you tested both configurations using identical benchmarks? Comparing with real-world users won’t reflect your specific situation. For example, when measuring performance via YouTube videos, it’s important to ensure consistency across tests.
Performance (P) Cores plus Efficiency (E) Cores can cause issues if you're still using Windows 10 because the scheduler isn't set up to manage Efficiency cores efficiently. Try turning off the E cores in the BIOS and check if it improves things, or use Process Lasso to adjust task affinity to just P cores. Moving from a 9900K to an 12700K likely means the power supply isn't the main problem, as the newer model probably consumes less power than that older generation unit.
12th gen generally needs Windows 11 for optimal performance. Besides that, outdated drivers and old software can slow things down. Whenever there’s a platform update, a clean installation is usually best. It’s better to skip the troubles instead of trying fixes. Make sure your game settings are set correctly—often they get lost. Also, be wary of claims you’re supposed to receive; it’s important to verify they match what you expect.
Alrighty so here's the situation. Dont call me dumb lmao. I fixed it. I had my card mounted vertically with a PCIE riser cable. It didnt fit in the first PCIE slot with the armor for some reason so I put it in the second. Thats what did it. I just removed the riser and forced the card into the armored 1st PCIE slot and were back lmao. Gotta love it
