Performance drop sensation
Performance drop sensation
Hey! I'm facing some trouble with my PC. It hasn't been used for gaming for about two months except for other tasks. Recently, I bought Riders Republic and tried to play, but it slowed down to around 4fps, ignored inputs, and stuttered heavily. After a restart, it returned to normal but then dropped back to 40fps and then 4fps again. I checked the drivers and installed an updated GPU, but the issue persisted. I tried using DDU to reset the drivers and did a clean install, but the problem continued. I ran 3DMark timespy and got a score of 6000, which is way below my usual 13000-14000. I noticed the GPU seemed to behave oddly when idle. After adding a video to the attachments, the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEOB2MEl1Gk helped. The system details are: Intel i7-78700K, RTX 3080, 16GB DDR4 RAM, Windows 11 version 21H2, build 22000.795, temps normal, thermal paste is 6 months old. The issue stopped after the video.
In the sensors section, you can scroll to understand the reasons behind throttling.
didn't provide much info afterburner mentioned memclock and GPU clock reaching max memory clock (9501) and GPU clock hitting 1710. In GPUZ, memclock caps at 1100 while GPU clock stays at 1710 plus. I'm unsure what to check for a 29°C temperature and a hotspot around 40°C.
In the sensor section at the bottom near the CPU temperature, just above it, there should be a line indicating... Performance Cap Reason. Click on that area to see details. Hovering over various parts will reveal the reason for the performance cap. You can also open the gpuz box for a broader timeline.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like the issue might be related to voltage stability or an older system configuration. The test results from 2014 suggest everything was functioning, but the current setup seems to struggle with power delivery. The score of 13800 and a green cap reason indicate some initial success, though VREL and VOP limitations are still present. It appears the GPU may be having trouble maintaining performance under load, possibly due to outdated hardware or configuration changes. You might want to check for firmware updates or consider a more recent power supply if possible.
