I’m experiencing much worse single-core performance on Windows 11 than on Windows 10. Both were installed fresh with the newest chipset drivers. My scores show a nearly 20% drop. Could something be affecting this? I had to revert to Windows 10 for better speed, but I’d prefer using Windows 11.

Did you verify whether your CPU is automatically slowing down because of an AVX setting in the BIOS? In Windows 11, AVX supports background processes, meaning a BIOS-configured offset will probably cause your CPU to run at a lower speed most of the time.

I only modified a few options in the BIOS, like turning on PBO and configuring EXPO. Everything else stayed as the standard defaults.

Are you sure you're relying solely on one test? Geekbench isn't very trustworthy. Consider adding tools like Blender to your evaluation mix for a more accurate assessment.

Run cinebench to observe CPU frequencies and similar metrics during testing. (Warning: You missed 200MHz in one run, which might affect results.) Disable any background processes ahead of time, as they can greatly influence performance.

Check the Overclocking section in the BIOS for a setting called 'AVX Offset'. In Windows 10 and earlier, you might not have seen it unless your software used AVX features. It was one of the first things I noticed during the upgrade to Windows 11. Why was my CPU performing worse than expected?

Security tools in Windows 11 such as memory protection may affect speed, and updates can also play a role, though they don't typically cause a 20% slowdown on modern processors.

I also saw a 200mhz drop, but a nearly 20% variation is pretty notable even for such a small loss.
