After finishing my new PC i realy was looking into playing DSP agian. But as soon as i loaded a big Dyson-Sphere Blueprint the fps dropped to 7 and the GPU showed realy odd behaviour: (I know big Spheres are heavy on the system and the fps is just fine if the rendering is turned off or if you're just in another solar system) (all drivers are up-to-date) At the main "resolution" (UWQHD = 3440x1440) i get 60+ fps (GPU is at max load) At 2560x1080 i get 110+ fps (at 1920x1080 => 150 fps) (GPU is at max load) BUT as soon as i turn on the rendering for the Dyson Sphere (building in progress) somthing odd happens: 1. The usage is all over the place, power dropps from 100W to just 25W (GPU). 2. The Game slows down and i can only get 7 fps no matter what the "resulution" is set to. (Screenshot of Afterburner and HWM) Spoiler My friend has the same problem with his PC (GPU: 2070 Super) - So it's not a AMD thing. I read that this could be a multithreading problem... Adding a mod (DSPOptimizations) helped go get 1-2 more fps so now the game runns at 9 fps (woohoo)... Another post i saw mentiond that the game needs to do lots of "floating point calculating"... To sum it up my question is: - can somone who got this game and a high-end GPU confirm this behaviour? (max radius Dyson-Sphere) -is there anything i can do (is it possible this could be a multithreading problem)? (if it is what would you suggest) -or is it just not programmed good enough?
That’s a specific program I’ve never even heard of. Since a real Dyson sphere would be a sphere the size of some of the largest stars and have a surface area hundreds of thousands of times that of the entire earth this doesn’t sound real surprising to me. It’s just a game though so none of that may apply. Have you tried any other app on the thing? It might be an app specific thing.
I evaluated various configurations over several hours and reached a conclusion: designs without many "Nodes" reduce system load significantly. (though they consume less power). I plan to minimize lag across few solar systems and deploy visually appealing (less efficient) Dyson spheres elsewhere. This approach sidesteps the issue rather than solving it. I remain curious—could a high-end GPU make this particular challenge more manageable? I’d like to try it myself, but I can’t acquire one. (Of course, this isn’t about purchasing one for testing.) If you mean the GPU (hardware) and game/software (application), yes—I tested without issues. No glitches or problems were encountered. It appears the issue lies within the game itself, specifically in "DSP." My motivation is to see if some players with high-end GPUs could help by testing in a sandbox environment.
I assembled this system only three weeks prior, and the drivers are all current. I faced issues when moving from my old Quadro to the rx6600, so I had to tackle this myself. (I just installed the M.2 slot in the new machine.)
You've already done DDU? Sorry, I can't read out. It's possible that switching the GPU to another brand might cause issues with the old drivers. It's not the drivers themselves that are the problem, but rather whether they're up to date or if they're clean.
Unusual outcomes from Afterburner and HWM are observed. A clean Windows reinstall seems unlikely, as the issue appears to stem from software rather than hardware. If the problem continues after a clean install, it might indicate a GPU defect on another system—just my thoughts.
I rely heavily on various programs, and updating everything feels like a challenge (took me about 10 hours the last time). I frequently perform fresh Windows installs, so I’m the tech support for many friends and family. The issue doesn’t seem to be related to my hardware, as my friend has the same problem too.
