I may build a system with 8600G and 2x16GB. Application. Reason for getting the APU is that I "play" with FreeCAD and possibly other 3D modeling. This is purely a hobby. Currently I use an i7-7700K and the 630 iGPU comes to its limit. It is my understanding, there is absolutely no need for a dGPU. For 7000-series Ryzen it is recommended to use 6000/CL30 RAM. This is because of some 1:1 and 1:2 etc. But how is that for the 8000-series? Those are different chips based on mobile CPU. So that 1:1/infinity fabric (or whatever) rule of thumb may be different. The likely MB allegedly supports up to 8000. While researching this, I found many users report even 6000 RAM running unstable long-term on an 8600G. Obviously this could be user error. Is there anything to that? Faster is better, but not if it isn't stable. What is my best option? Ideally for $100 or less for a 2x16 kit.
The 8600G Ram sweet spot matches the 7000 and 9000 series Ryzen models. AFAIK. This suggests using around 6000MT/s CL30 is typical. I haven’t encountered any issues with 6000MT/s in the four builds I’ve tested, but online reports indicate some users face problems above 5200MT/s. They only list the QVL for 8000-series models up to 7400, which is a bit limited. I also struggle to locate RAM from their catalog. Using onpcpartspicker with the timings helps, but each model usually has a slightly different part number. Very few sellers carry the budget 8600G, and it can sometimes be out of stock. At a regular price, the 8700 is just $30 more than the 7400. Not available on QVL, but these kits for $100 might be worth considering? The 7000/CL32, 7200/CL34, and 7400/CL36 are all on QVL and priced around $98. The 7200/CL34 seems like a solid alternative.
If it appears on the QVL, it should be the top option. The listed price is reasonable too. Be aware there are documented problems with the 8600G when reaching over 6400MT/s, the QVL entries typically apply to the motherboard only. A 6000MT/s CL30 kit on the QVL is likely more affordable and would probably face fewer complications. A 7000MT/s or higher kit should be handled carefully—if it's unstable, you'll have to adjust the speed and timings manually to achieve stability.
If you aim to stay under 7000, sticking with the 1:1 and choosing 6000/CL30 seems smarter. Running it at 6800 or 6600 with a 2:1 setup might actually boost performance at 6000/1:1. You likely won’t need to tweak or test manually—just set XMP and it should handle it. I’ve used an AM5 board with 6000/CL30 from QVL and it performed flawlessly. The Amazon listing claims it’s not compatible with Gigabyte boards, which is confusing since it’s available on QVL. Why would a specific manufacturer be required? It probably comes down to brand consistency and reliability. With DDR5 mature, 6000 should still deliver solid speeds regardless of module brand.
