I constructed this device roughly six months ago. I frequently use numerous applications and deal with many live data streams. The system operates normally until memory usage hits around half of what Task Manager reports. Then performance drops or functions improperly. CPU model: AMD Ryzen 3900x, 12 cores... RAM: Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming, 64GB, four 16GB modules — G Skill TridentZ F4-3600C16-16GTZNC (compatible). Operating system: 10.0.19044.1645 (Windows 10 21H2, updated Nov 2021). Video: Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super Gaming OC (GV-N206SGAMING OC-8GD). Drivers: 30.0.15.1215 – nVIDIA ForceWare 512.15 (latest as of Apr 15 '22). Screens: 3x 4K LG HDR. Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus, 2TB, set to 2333 MHz; stability improved after lowering clock speed from 3600 to 3533. Notable observations: Task Manager (after restart) lists 15.1GB used, but shows "Committed memory" at 31/75GB and 29GB cached with 48 available. Resource Monitor reveals 88MB reserved, 14,700 in use, 900 modified, ~29k standby, ~20k free (assuming standby = cached). Aida64 memory test returned 53 GB/s, labeled "Dual DDR4-3533" — unclear if this is quad. Initially had 32GB, found it limited (slowed ~16), so added matching sticks to reach the correct configuration. MemTest64 passed all modules. If I power off and restart, it runs smoothly for 32GB testing but struggles at 35GB. Occasionally sees "Memory locking failed" in Task Manager around 60% usage. During MemTest64, the system may crash and force a restart for each app (Loupeede is powerful but Windows service caused excessive context switching). I’ve disabled that service and am collaborating with their team to resolve the issue. As a developer, I often run many apps for Visual Studio 22, live feeds, in-memory databases, and heavy Adobe tools — plus numerous Chrome tabs. I suspect some slow utility or background service interfering. I’d appreciate suggestions for a lighter Windows version or even switching to Windows Server. Using around 32GB seems sufficient most of the time, but it’s time to fix this. Anyone have recommendations or checks to try? The memory locking concern from MemTest64 is my top worry. Thanks ahead, Peter.

am4 allows dual channel RAM with up to four channels, supporting two dimmers per channel. The task manager may display high disk usage during slow performance. Likely it attempts a memory test in Windows or MemTest86 to check for hardware problems. I might consider reinstalling Windows if I were the one experiencing this issue.

Resource Monitor > Disk tab > Disk Activity section > Organize by Total (B/sec). Do any files show intense writing or reading during this process?

I completed a fresh reboot, installed numerous applications, reached up to 21GB of usage. Ran MemTest64 to increase utilization, +10GB performed well. At +15GB the screens froze midway through Bitpattern testing, and I briefly lost my network connection. It resumed after a few seconds, but the swap file was heavily engaged. I tested +20 and +25GB on MemTest64, consistently triggering this screen crash during the final stage. The event log showed: Event 1000 in dwm.exe --- Faulting application name: dwm.exe, version: 10.0.19041.746, timestamp: 0x6be51595 Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.19041.1645, timestamp: 0x630193b4 Exception code: 0xe0464645 Fault offset: 0x000000000010b362 Faulting process id: 0x660 Faulting app started at: 0x01d851b7a0da81a5 Faulting path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\dwm.exe Faulting module at: C:\WINDOWS\System32\KERNELBASE.dll Report Id: 76b6a726-ef97-49e9-a825-4caa19c55937 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative app ID: --- Yet today only dwm.exe crashed completely at that moment, which doesn’t match the ~15 times I’ve witnessed screen blanking during memory tests in the last two hours. -Peter

Preparing to test the Win10 MemTest now. Hoping a fresh install won't help right away.

Successful run. Took about 3 hours with no issues. Performed Safe boot and MemTest64; still couldn't allocate even 40GB, though Windows reported only ~3GB used. Error message: "Memory locking failed (might be reserved by other apps/kernel)." Anyone have ideas on debugging memory locking or identifying what's locking it? Cheers, Peter.
