Hello, I'm trying to get consistent 180fps in CS2 but it often drops to 120-130 for short periods. I'm using a system with an i5-13600k CPU, GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB RAM, and a TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS. I play on a 2K monitor and ran a benchmark on 3D MARK (TIME SPY FOR DIRECT 12). The results and temperatures are available. Can you help figure out why?

CS2 demands a lot from the processor, which is why frame drops can happen frequently.

Thermal throttling on the 105C indicates high temperatures in a hotspot area.

The GPU average temperature relative to the hotspot is likely too high (my reading is around 12°, while I have a 3070 with about 25°). A thermal paste swap might be needed (I suggest PTM7950 for the die; not guaranteed to fix everything). Undervolting could also help—same performance with less power, and it’s straightforward. It's common to see elevated delta values, but the overall temperature is high. A repaste cleaning of the PC could help, especially if it hasn't been done before.

How do you know this (fair question) ? I believe it is. Consider a gpu die, everything on the die is under a similar load and everything under a similar cooling so everything should have a similar temperature, no ?

High-end GPUs run hot and their chips are packed tightly together. Even at 20°C it’s quite warm, but my GPU has a 14°C difference, making it the top GTX-10 series card. The likely cause is that the connections between the GPU die and the cooler are weaker or thinner, possibly due to dried or thinner thermal paste.

Your stance is clear—14° works well for you and matches your past experiences. You might even consider reducing it to 12° if desired.

Only option is a complete refresh. The PC is on the desk and the GPU is more affordable 2-fan MSI model.
