Performance declines on top-tier computers
Hello, here’s the overview of my PC setup for my specs: an Intel i5 12600K, Evga 3080 graphics, 10GB RAM, MSI Z690-A motherboard, and an SSD from Samsung 970 EVO Plus. This list may be a bit lengthy, so I apologize. I’ve noticed some frame rate drops and stutters across all games, regardless of FPS limits. Temperatures remain stable, and clock speeds appear normal. Previously, my GPU would freeze at around 330MHz. The only solution was disabling it via Device Manager and re-enabling, which took about a week. After that, I adjusted settings in MSI Afterburner and eventually turned on the resizable bar. It seemed to resolve the issue temporarily. Recently, I disabled it again after stutters began appearing while playing Apex Legends, especially in confined spaces or with terrain changes. I reinstalled everything and cleared the drive, which improved performance significantly. My input lag is much better now, and stutters have lessened. However, FPS still fluctuates. I play at 1440p at 165Hz on a 4K screen, but my SSD would fill up to about 90% before clearing back down to around 18%. I suspect the SSD might be the culprit due to performance drops during abrupt movements or terrain shifts. I’ve also tried reseating the GPU and adjusting CPU usage percentages, which sometimes helped. Thanks for your understanding.
Search for a motherboard BIOS upgrade. I remember during the early phases of Re-sizeable BAR, some issues arose... Tech Jesus Gamers Nexus even mentioned this in their testing. The BIOS doesn’t properly turn it on or off, so you might need to reset the CMOS or adjust settings. Even if it shows "Disabled," it could actually be active... depending on the board. Also verify your DRAM is running at the correct speed and timing, not the default JEDEC rate like DDR5-4800.
What power supply unit do you have? And was this one you assembled yourself or a pre-made model?
I forgot to mention the details. I own a Crosair 850W gold plus. I also tested a 1000W platinum just to confirm it works. I assembled it myself.
You can attempt to clear the CMOS again. It might resolve the stutters you're experiencing.
In Device Manager, go to Sound and select NVIDIA. Turn off anything associated with it.
