Performance declines and unstable input in Valorant
Hey there, folks. It's pretty odd for me to see sudden FPS drops and jitter in Valorant—like a 700+ fps crash to just 200-300 fps in comp and tdm. Here’s what I have on my PC:
Processor: Ryzen 7 7700X
Motherboard: MSI Pro B650M-A
RAM: CORSAIR CMK32GX5M2B6000C40, 32GB (16×2) DDR5 @ 6000mhz
GPU: MSI RTX 4070 Ti 12G GAMING X TRIO with Cooling System
Cooler: Cooler Master PL360 Flux Storage
Power Supply: DEEPCOOL DQ850M-V3L (80+ Gold)
Any tips or recommendations would be super helpful!
Regrettably, the 7700X isn't a CPU capable of supporting a 4070Ti in a 1080p setting for such a lightweight game. You can observe this by tracking your GPU activity with software like MSI Afterburner or GPU-Z. If your main title is Valorant, you have two possibilities to enhance the experience. A helpful suggestion I’ll share later is: either upgrade your monitor to a 4K display at 120Hz, which would allow your system to run more smoothly without large performance swings, or switch your CPU to a 7800X3D paired with a 1440p monitor offering 144/165/185/240Hz. You can experiment with Nvidia Dynamic Super Resolution, setting it to 4K resolution and testing the results. The advice here is: if you’re not using Nvidia Fast Sync, cap your frame rate at about two frames per second less than your maximum refresh; if you are, aim for roughly 50% above your refresh rate (around 216 fps) or a quarter of that (about 180 fps). Maintaining a steady frame rate most of the time improves muscle memory and reaction speed during intense moments.
luckily, you can simply set your frame rate to 144fps. it's also a good idea to disable vsync while playing and opt for nvidia fast sync instead. this will enhance your gaming experience by eliminating the need to constantly adapt to fluctuating frame rates.
