Performance Check: Monster Hunter World: Iceborne CPU Usage Overview
Curious about the CPU load during MHW testing. I tried a few approaches: turned off/enabled core affinity in Task Manager, focused on CCD 0 before moving to CCD 1, kept stock CPU settings, and used Rivatuner and MSI afterburner for benchmarking. Ran a fixed path in Ancient Forest Game Settings. Hardware specs: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz, 12-core stock processor, be quiet CPU cooler. Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS, 16GB DDR4 memory, NZXT Noctis case, Corsair RM850 power supply, Windows 10 Home. The hypothesis was that GTX970 would show only minor performance drops after 4c/4t, with slight gains in the top percentages and a small improvement in frame rates. Results: Spoiler thread showed mostly stable performance, around 40 FPS average, with some minor dips. Frame stats ranged from 29.6 to 48.5 FPS depending on settings. The main takeaway was that CPU usage stayed near 100% across all cores, making the frame times inconsistent. It’s a clear CPU bottleneck, especially noticeable during intense scenes. Overall, it confirmed the need for better GPU support or higher-end hardware for smoother gameplay.
