I purchased Win8 previously when they offered a discount for users running Windows 7. It seems the price was around £25 for the digital upgrade. Regarding a clean installation via the downloader, there appears to be an option to skip saving data, though it’s unclear if this constitutes a true clean install or merely creates a backup in a Windows.old folder, similar to what happened when upgrading from XP to 7.

You're unsure about removing something. Click the right-click icon on the C:\ folder, choose Properties. Next, select the Disk Cleanup option, then pick the Cleanup System files button. Make sure all checkboxes are selected, and press OK.
