I understand your situation with the Dell Latitude running Windows 7 on a failing drive. You wanted to reinstall from scratch using an SSD, but discovered that only retail keys work for OEM installations. No one has any advice to share before you consider cloning the drive. I’m here to help you explore alternatives.

You can obtain official ISO files from Microsoft servers with this utility. Alternatively, you may contact Microsoft directly.

This product is terrible. Having two separate groups is bad for everyone.

I was just helping a friend with this, and it’s easier when you’re talking through it. He won’t change his mind. Great! Connecting with support helped. I can’t get the Windows 7 ISO from there.

Tell him he’s being too simple-minded. Security, compatibility, the newest MS Office, and other matters will be left behind in W7. It’s a nice, comfortable OS but it’s almost ten years old—time to upgrade. If he qualifies for a free upgrade, he should take it. If not, he shouldn’t be so cheap. Love- A Guy on the Internet

It seems the free upgrade window has ended and he’s already paying for Windows 10 Pro.

10 Homes? OEM Keys? (These tend to be more affordable)

Absolutely, I switched to Windows 10, but I missed some of the older stuff. Still, Win7 felt smoother for things like searching in the Start Menu.

He relies on Pro, and we handle engineering tasks. A particular program is required, but it conflicts with Windows 10. It seems like you're wasting effort, as there isn't much point in upgrading if it doesn't work.
