I’m looking to switch to Windows 10 on a new SSD while keeping your existing 1TB drive. I have all my files and junk on that one drive, so I’m planning to buy a fast SSD like the Sandisk Ultra II 2.5" 120GB. I want it for quick startup and maybe a couple of games—CS GO and possibly GTA V, which is big. I need to know if I can install Windows 10 on the new SSD even though Windows 7 runs on another drive. This is my first OS upgrade since I didn’t use Windows 8. Any advice would be great!

You can perform a clean installation via the provided link, though setting it up on a new SSD may require additional steps.

I'm facing the same issue as you. The tool didn't work on a 64GB USB drive, probably because the limit was set at 32GB. I moved it to an SD card and it functioned properly. After installing it on my SSD, it kept warning about GPT installation, so I changed it to MBR. It started working until internet connectivity disappeared, which I suspect is a licensing or driver problem. Now it's using Legacy mode for MBR, but the Windows boot manager won't appear, preventing a full boot. It's been a really frustrating process. Let me know if this helps.

We need to prepare the SD card properly. First, format it according to FAT32 standards. Next, mount the ISO image. Then, transfer all necessary files from the ISO onto the SD drive. After that, power down the system and disconnect all other HDDs except the SSD. Ensure the CSM in your UEFI is turned off. Boot from the SD card and proceed with the formatting process. Complete installation will finalize everything. Remember, reconnecting other drives later requires adjusting the boot settings in UEFI to point to the SSD.

You need to upgrade to Windows 10 first on the HDD, then reformat your SSD (don’t remove the small 350MB partition if you have it). Even though the system prompts for a product key, you can skip that step and it will activate automatically when connected to the internet. Use the ISO file that matches the version of Windows 7/8/8.1 you currently have—pro or home edition works! I retrieved my SSD from the old system during the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 just to be safe.

He has already upgraded, yet the system starts in an older mode instead of UEFI.

You'll keep Windows 7 available on your hard drive even after installing a new operating system.

Absolutely, just legacy mode is it? My laptop still jumps straight to Windows 10 in 7 seconds after an update, even though I updated it.
