I'm heading to band camp this summer, with a roughly 4.5 to 5 hour drive. I'll bring my laptop (GS70 stealth pro-099) to play games during the trip. There will be Wi-Fi at the camp, but not on the way. I have $25 in my Steam wallet... any solid single-player or local co-op titles that work well on a laptop for this kind of journey? And please, no need for online play.

Skyrim? (Its visual power could drain your battery!)

It's a useful way to pass the time, though it can be quite annoying. The store link seems to be broken.

Fallout 3 / New Vegas. Bastion (if you’re comfortable with a controller). Borderlands 1 / 2. Any Valve titles. Batman Arkham games. All fit your $25 limit, none come with DRM restrictions—think of it like purchasing a uPlay title. They’re all single-player, offer solid campaigns, and can make the hours fly!

Bioshock might not be worth it if you're worried about running out of food, while Force vs. Beast Siege is quite straightforward, and all these games are pretty simple to enjoy while driving.

Consider a game similar to Portal 2, though it could feel too fast-paced and trigger motion sickness. Just Cause 2 is a good option if you're looking for something classic yet free and impressive. Warzone 2100 is another solid pick if you want a fresh experience.

I recommend Civilization 5, an excellent turn-based strategy title.

Absolutely, Civ V is a great pick compared to Beyond Earth.
