Check the instructions for your motherboard. Updating the BIOS is also necessary. https://rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog...lpdesk_cpu

Thanks for the support. I’m not sure if upgrading your CPU is necessary or if you’re facing a real bottleneck. It might depend on what you’re planning to do with your system. Your brother’s older i7 7700 could still work well if it fits your needs.

You just need to improve the CPU. Get a good one—Ryzen models in the $300 to $400 range should be suitable.

I messed up, I really shouldn’t have upgraded the CPU. Maybe just pick a great Ryzen instead.

It depends on how he plans to use it really. If he's a gamer, upgrading it can be great.

Eh, it really depends on the situation. At 1440p+ most games won't show a massive jump from 3700x to 5800x, though you'll still notice it. For your brother, a difference between 3700x and 7700x is noticeable enough. If you're offering parts to him, it opens the door. Keeping your 3700x with the motherboard makes sense if you want to upgrade your own setup. If I had a 3700x/B450 and planned to share it, I'd opt for a 12600K/12700K + MSI Z690-A PRO myself. But if I was just taking the 3700x or selling it separately, a 5800x would be more practical.
