Perfect fit for the 3080ti
Hey there! You're looking to upgrade your Ryzen 7 3700X with a 3080 Ti for your brother's build. Since you're mostly into gaming and have some Blender work, you'll want a CPU that matches your GPU's performance without going too far. Staying within AMD is a good choice. Consider mid-range options like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D or 6700X if you need more power for both gaming and design tasks.
Your motherboard is a computer's main circuit board that connects all components.
I evaluated multiple CPUs and the Horizon Zero Dawn game on ultra settings. It heavily relies on the GPU, ignoring core counts. At various resolutions—1080p, 1440p, 4K—I saw consistent performance drops. The 3080 Ti performed best at higher settings, especially with 12 cores. For 1080p, i9-9900k with 8 cores hit 155fps, while the i9-10900k with 10 cores reached 157fps. At 4K, the i9-9900k (8 cores) managed 156fps, and the i9-10900k (12 cores) pushed to 211fps. Shadow of the Tomb Raider was CPU-heavy at 1080p, favoring cores over cores. If I were purchasing now, a Ryzen with eight or more cores or an Intel i9 from the 10th or 11th generation would be ideal. Productivity problems with Windows 11 also played a big role.
It's easy to add a 5800x without much trouble. You're just missing out on PCIe 4 if you're interested in that.
It doesn’t really matter much for me, at best I could upgrade later. A Ryzen 7 5800X should fit with my motherboard. For future planning, a good option would be to consider a different board if you decide to change it.
