I use a modem (I had to get one). It's a newer model, so Dial-up isn't working. Do you have a modem?

Modem supports both cable (coaxial) and DSL connections, handling signal modulation and demodulation. It isn't restricted to dial-up or fixed-line services.

It seems like most people online are using a modem, right? You wouldn't be here talking if you weren't.

Well fiber or any wireless option (4G, 5G, WiMAX, etc.) doesn't require a modem.

Sure, it's accurate that the technology relies on cell towers. It's not the best for a stable internet connection, and you often pay more for 4G or 5G usage.

Your fiber connection runs directly to your modem and even your PC, but it typically ends at the service box outside your house. The rest of the path is usually coaxial in the United States.

It seems questionable if it's essential for most requirements. An Ethernet cable would be adequate.
