I used to enjoy playing games like EV Nova for long periods, spending nearly eight years on that title. Now, when I encounter games without full voice acting, I lose interest quickly. EV Nova remains one of my favorite games overall, but the lack of voice acting makes it feel more like reading than playing. Recently, I’ve noticed people often focus more on the software aspects rather than the gameplay itself, which still lets me dedicate 20 hours a week to it.

They prioritize having games accessible on PC with mod support. They focus on console resolutions since you can't match your screen or TV's native display, and a steady frame rate is essential for enjoying the game. I enjoy playing games on PC at medium settings even though I usually go ultra, because I don’t want to spend time fine-tuning settings as long as it runs smoothly at native resolution and 60 fps without looking bad.

due to the adjustments you made and the hours invested, the excitement around your work didn’t translate into success. games started gaining wider appeal beyond gaming communities, but developers prioritized visual polish and simplified elements to better attract their intended audiences. by the time you achieved the desired performance, the game wasn’t aligned with your vision, since it wasn’t designed for you. unfortunately, this pattern has continued over many years.

It varies based on how you define the game's appearance. If you didn't enjoy the visual style, that's perfectly okay—it's just a personal preference. Unless you're referring to the original Deus Ex, now that version seems quite outdated. It feels much less polished compared to modern standards, particularly in terms of graphics and user interface.

I used to play on my old notebook with minimal settings and low FPS, but those were older titles, not the latest hits. After getting my dream machine, I realized I wasn’t missing anything much. Most current games feel quite dull. I’m now looking carefully for something engaging for at least an hour, especially single-player experiences. Last year there were only three games... Three! This year so far it’s just The Talos Principle and I’m eager to see Witcher 3. Hopefully, Distance will come out next year too—maybe 3-4 promising titles each year. It’s been a tough time for gaming, but I still want to upgrade my hardware occasionally, though I’m holding back now because I don’t think it’ll make much difference.

I once struggled with intense addiction problems. Leaving the topic here wouldn't be out of place if I described the lengths I went to skip sleep (and sometimes meals) for weeks. My focus wasn't on system performance, though. Having a family and multiple jobs kept me grounded. Nowadays, I barely manage thirty minutes in a game. The equipment I used back then was always too powerful, so I never worried about slowdowns. At one point, virtual life was my entire existence. If there had been issues, it might have made my OCD worse, but it wouldn't have taken away my drive—it would have sharpened it. I'd constantly chase perfection.

Sometimes I think building a mid-range PC would be a smart move, especially to test AMD GPUs. It’s possible I’m just not enjoying the games enough. I usually use an FPS counter while playing, which might be what keeps me from fully immersing myself. I always work on dual monitors and run monitoring tools. Maybe I should cut back on that too. I agree with you—I tend to expect too much from graphics and then lose interest. Good visuals don’t always mean a great story. I’m trying Human Revolution but the graphics didn’t impress me, and I also disliked the gameplay. That’s why I can’t play Half-Life or Witcher yet; I know they won’t look as good as I want. Do anyone have graphics mods for Witcher? What do you think about DSR for older titles? I haven’t used it much because it often breaks my second monitor setup.

Experienced the same feeling now that I've logged 20 hours in GTA V... It seems most titles since the PS4/XboxOne launch aren't particularly strong, likely because they're spread across multiple platforms. This is the first year since 2013 when I'm genuinely excited about many games. The titles I'm planning to buy this year are: Star Wars Battlefront, Batman Arkham, Knight of the Ring, The Witcher 3, GTA V, The Division, Rainbow Six Siege, Mortal Kombat X, Tekken 7, and Project Cars.
