Pentium G3258 Cannot Be Overclocked On This Motherboard
I faced a quite bothersome issue the past week. I installed my Pentium G3258 with an MSI H81-P33 system and encountered difficulties when I increased the CPU multiplier beyond 32 (3200mHz) to 33 (3300mHz). In that case, my computer failed to boot into Windows. During the overclocking process, the machine would pass through the BIOS interface and display the Windows boot sequence for a couple of seconds before halting. After that, it would restart and attempt to load to the Windows Error Recovery screen. I attempted a Startup Repair, but it didn’t resolve the issue. When I returned to the BIOS and reset everything to its original settings, Windows would boot normally. This problem doesn’t appear when I lower the CPU speed to 3100mHz. My BIOS is currently up to date with version 1.90.
P.S. Several online discussions mention that this CPU and motherboard setup can be overclocked successfully.

I’ve looked through those discussions before buying parts, but now I’m facing a problem with the overclocking itself. When I try to boost the CPU multiplier, I can’t get into Windows. How much did you adjust it? Does it boot normally at stock speeds? Is there any way to post updates? Also, what other details do you have about the system and cooler? Please pay close attention to my first message—it should cover most of what I need.
These forums have been helpful before, but now I’m facing a different problem with overclocking. I can’t boot into Windows when trying to raise the CPU multiplier. How much did you adjust it? Does it start with the original speeds? Is there any way to post again? What other details do you need about the system and cooler? Please check my first message—it should cover most of this. The system does post when overclocked, but it won’t enter Windows and I’m using the standard cooler.
Hey sorry for the delayed response, but I managed to solve it eventually. I performed a fresh installation of Windows 7 on the system, skipped installing additional MSI tools, and proceeded to overclock the CPU via BIOS—it functioned! Hope this helps, and I hope it works for you as well!
Hello, I'm just starting out here (my account hasn't been active for over ten minutes). I saw something in another post (h81m-e33) about this issue during a Windows 7 upgrade. I'm quoting what I read:
"If you've installed all of Microsoft's updates, even the optional ones, especially this one, it can prevent Windows 7 from booting. You should uninstall it by going to KB3064209 and restart your computer. Apply your OC settings, and it should boot into Windows 7. I usually would have hidden that update if everything worked out."
