I own a 2003 gaming PC and wanted to test its capabilities. It handles Minecraft, though with some block lag. The issue seemed linked to the CPU at full capacity. After researching, the best upgrade was a Pentium 4 3.4GHz, which wasn’t significantly better. I tried overclocking from 3.2GHz to 3.4GHz and... still experienced lag. Eventually, I settled on a 3.68GHz CPU after adjusting in steps until the system stabilized. The lag was mostly resolved, but I’m looking for an even faster option. Would a 3.4GHz overclock be more effective than the 3.2GHz one?

Nothing you attempt will make a significant difference. The available processing capacity is too limited to improve much. The greatest gain comes from the overclocking percentage, with a 34/32 ratio offering about 6% maximum boost. You might also face problems with video or system memory.

I have a full set stored in a box somewhere
The motherboard is quite old, but I prefer not to replace it, so I'm using the socket 478

people give me their old stuff.. i usually just gut it all... currently i have 2 main desktops i use, 2 others i experiment with so i dont mess up my mains.. 2 laptops, 1 windows tablet, 1 android tablet, and then i have a pentium 4 system i put together just for shits n giggles.. built it, checked it for working order, and havent turned it on since.. has 4 ram slots (1gb each), a PCI edition Zotac 610GT 1GB, and an Asus PCI sound card. have vista running on that turd lol. I did test some emulators on it and it worked reasonably well for the early gen stuff.. did notice some micro stutter playing bluray mkv files in VLC with it though
