I haven't built my PC yet, but I'm curious about what would happen if I connected an Ethernet cable to it and the other end to my PS4. You mentioned you have a PCIe Wi-Fi card installed.

It won’t change anything. You can try if you’re interested, but it won’t cause harm and will do nothing.

It seems like you're questioning the practicality of a custom crossover Ethernet cable. If it's not designed for that purpose, using it as a standard Ethernet cable won't work.

No one understands what to do with it. That's why you require a translator between the two. Also known as router, switch, or modem.

All is explained by logic. To connect an Ethernet to the PS4, you must have a cable from the switch or router...

We no longer rely on crossover cables; Gigabit Ethernet ports identify the need for a crossover and adjust automatically. In reality, the PS4 can move data between devices by connecting them via Ethernet. If a PC had a wireless connection and the wired port was shared, the PS4 could join online, though this would create double-NAT issues for gaming.

They do? I haven't needed to do that in over 15 years since it's always simpler to just use a router. The more you understand, the better.
