PCPC suddenly becomes slow.
Hi! I recently upgraded my PC from a GTX 1060 to a RTX 3060 to boost performance. Before changing cards, I performed a factory reset to clear my files, as the storage was nearly full and impacting speed. After that, I reinstalled the latest drivers and increased the processor overclocking to get more out of it. Unfortunately, the system is now running slower than before, experiencing more stutter and lower FPS. I tested reverting back to the old GPU to check for compatibility issues, but it still lags compared to its previous speed. I’ve looked through many troubleshooting guides, but nothing resolved the problem. I’m hoping you can offer any advice to help my PC perform better. My setup includes: MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Intel Core i7-7700K Corsair 16GB(8x2) 3000MHz Bitfenix Whisper M 750W MSI GeForce RTX 3060 12GB Gaming.
I'm clarifying how you're assessing the speed. Are you referring to frame rate? By what amount? Have you installed all the drivers from the motherboard, GPU, and other sources? Did resolution or any other settings adjust? Some games automatically adapt to system performance.
Generally, you only need the Intel chipset driver and the Intel management engine. It's also advised to install the newest GPU driver from NVIDIA's website. Once done, right-click your computer, select properties, and you'll see the Device Manager—check if anything is still missing. EDIT.: Upgrading to BIOS with a resizable bar can boost performance, though it's uncertain if that's possible with your 7700k chip. Someone might have a better answer for that.
It seems Live Update 6 should manage everything properly if it functions as expected. I’ll take care of updating the drivers, just like Gigabyte Control Center does. If not, you’ll need the chipset drivers. The remaining features appear to focus on user experience rather than performance gains.
Games are running at very low frame rates despite the low FPS. I performed a Live Update and installed all drivers, but testing Rocket League still yields 15-30 FPS. I suspect the issue might be related to my internet connection, given my ping was around 170 at that time. I also tried an offline game, which only managed about 20 consistent FPS.
