PCIE4
Hi, I've just set up a new rig for MSFS and I'm noticing the looming arrival of PCIe 4.0, which should definitely boost performance. My main concern is whether an i7-9700K can support PCIe 4.0 and utilize it effectively. Are any of the 9th or 10th generation Intel CPUs compatible with PCIe 4.0? If the 9th generation models don't support it, it might be a waste of time searching for a Socket 1151 M/B with PCIe 4.0 support. Looking forward to your insights!
The chipset and CPU lanes are version 3, not version 4. In most cases, unless you're fully utilizing the bandwidth of version 3 for a GPU or an M.2 slot, you won't see a performance boost.
Question it especially for gaming tasks, no the board and CPU don't support PCIe 4.0, they aren't available. Only a few LGA1200 boards are compatible with PCIe 4.0, but no CPU using that standard exists on LGA1200 yet. At the moment, thinking about cookies seems pointless unless you're used to copying files a lot lol.
I mentioned "real use." Often people struggle to distinguish between a SATA SSD and a supposedly "7x faster" NVMe drive, making the jump from PCIe3 to PCIe4 practically meaningless unless you have very special scenarios.
