Hello everyone, I own a server with an EX58-UD4P motherboard, a TX850W PSU, an Xeon X5675 processor, and 16 GB RAM (8x2). I have a Kingston hx316c10fk2/16 SSD and an NVIDIA 8600 GT. I’m currently running Unraid, but I need to upgrade the network port. I connected an I225 PCIe card to the X1 slot, but it keeps refusing to enter POST, turning on and off repeatedly. After removing it, I got back to POST and accessed the OS. Trying it in the X4 or X8 slots gives the same issue. When I swapped out the CMOS battery and reinserted it, the PC started working again. The card seems to be functioning on my main system. Anyone know what’s going on or how to fix it? Thanks!

The card probably doesn't match the chipset of that older board, so you may need something more compatible. It's unlikely any card will work if the BIOS is already up-to-date.

Sure, the BIOS is the newest version, so I might need to look for a different card. Appreciate the help.

The board already includes a gigabit Ethernet port, which will surpass the existing drive interface speeds, allowing you to simply utilize the built-in Ethernet connection.

Writing from an SSD to another SSD can boost speed if you exceed gigabit rates, though it depends on the setup. The 3Gb/s speed applies to all connected SATA ports together, not just one.

A gigabit ethernet link delivers roughly 125 megabytes each second, better matching how a SATA 2 disk actually moves large files. You might see faster bursts if the data is tiny, but generally the system you're using will be slower than those SATA 2 rates due to other limitations. Unless you needed to load many SSDs in RAID 0 on that unit, the Ethernet port won't stay heavily loaded for long.
