I purchased a 750 400GB SSD with PCIe add-in card for $40 from a local buy-sell site. It arrived in good condition and seems to function properly in the first PCIe slot on my motherboard. However, when trying to install it in the second (lower) slot, it doesn’t work at all. I haven’t used that slot before since I didn’t need it. I tried swapping the SSD with my GPU, which resolved the fan noise but left no video output. The power indicator lights up in the top slot, though I’m unsure if it’s functional without a display. In the lower slot, nothing happens and there are no indicators either. I’m confused about whether the slot is damaged or if dust is preventing connections. I’m not sure what to do next and was hoping someone with expertise could suggest a solution. Please let me know what you recommend.
Review your motherboard guide, chances are it isn’t an X16 port. (It’s labeled as an X16, but it’s likely an X8) You won’t require an adapter to fit a PCI-E x4 card into an x1 slot—it will install automatically.
Thanks for your feedback. I noticed the slot becomes inactive when the main M.2 is turned on. It's actually a 4x design, which makes it even more problematic. Appreciate you bringing this to my attention!
It's frustrating. Using one of the X1s should resolve the issue. (Provided they aren't affected by other factors.)
