Based on what you're observing, it seems to apply mainly to devices that are modifying a PCIe x1 port into a PCIe x16 connection.

It could get worse. I think the OP already has a strategy in place, but just to confirm, @Vdkxmn could provide some guidance on how you're working with this ribbon cable. This way, we can ensure the one you picked fits perfectly. I also noticed the black one features a right-angle connector, which might simplify the process but could be trickier based on the card's position.
