PCIe Airflow Advice
PCIe Airflow Advice
I have an RTX 3050 in my top PCIe slot. It's back the the olden days when EVGA still tolerated Nvidia's B. I was wondering if it would be a good idea for me to put a PCIe card in the slot second from the top (x1, Not the x16 slot beneath that). If I do, there is a very high chance that one of the fans will have 0 airflow.
Is there only one remaining position in your setup? If yes, you’ll need to take it and ensure proper ventilation. Otherwise, opt for a lower slot so the GPU can manage its cooling needs.
Do you have images of your setup? It would help a lot if we could actually see what it looks like while explaining. What size PCIe card do you plan to install next to your GPU? Honestly, the 3050 isn’t a power-hungry component, so ensuring strong airflow isn’t as crucial as for a 3090 or 4090. Also, your case selection will have a much bigger impact on airflow than just adding a PCIe x1 slot.
You might want a PCIE 1x Extension Cable (https://www.amazon.com/Expander-Extensio...B07XK7F6XL) to place the card in another port and link it to your motherboard slot. This lets you keep all your PCIe lanes active while improving airflow around your graphics card.
