PCIe 5.0 versus two PCIe 4.0 lanes in RAID 0 configuration
PCIe 5.0 versus two PCIe 4.0 lanes in RAID 0 configuration
Evaluating performance differences between a single M.2 drive at PCIe 5.0 and two M.2 drives at PCIe 4.0 in RAID 0 is interesting. In a 12900k build with an Asus Z690 Maximus Extreme using the DIMM.2 slot for RAID drives, combining them might offer better speed than running one drive at 5.0 while using the chipset at 4.0. With a GPU consuming 16 lanes, dedicating the remaining 4 lanes on a PCIe 5.0 card could provide an advantage over the combined 8 lanes of two 4-lane drives.
Hello, it seems there aren't any available drives that use PCIe 5.0 right now. All PCI 4.0 options are already optimized for compatibility, offering no significant speed boost. It’s hard to say what you’re working with, but PCI 4.0 SSDs are fast enough on their own. I’d probably go with a single high-capacity drive like a 980 Pro.
