Hello everyone, here are my specifications: Desktop setup includes a Ryzen 5800X3D - RX6900XT with XPG Spectrix D41 32GB @3600Mhz and B450 Aorus Pro. I’m using an Asus TUF VG27AQML1A plus an AOC 24G2U, paired with a XPG PYLON 650. I’d like to know: I need a converter to boost M2 bandwidth on my B450 Aorus Pro motherboard. I’m considering options that support four slots and plan to use all of them. I have extra M2 disks available.

First, could you share an image of the motherboard? I’m planning to install a slot that’s currently labeled as X4 but is actually an x16 form factor. It has a low pin count. Based on my research, PCIe 3.0 x4 delivers speeds around 4GB/s. My questions are:

1) Will adding this card cause lane loss in my video card slot?
2) Since the board is x16 but I’m using an x4 slot, can I install it without issues?
3) If I use four slots together, will I reach up to 4GB/s with one disk active, or will it cap at 1GB/s because all slots are full?
4) I want to enable RAID0 on the internal two M2 slots. I plan to apply a similar setup to an external card to maximize performance and extend drive life. Will this configuration show up in the RAID settings on the BIOS, allowing me to configure RAID on the external card? This would help address the lane loss concern from point 3.

Thanks!

These cards depend on a full x16 electrical port. To connect more than one NVMe drive, you'd need an active PCIe splitter—expensive to buy. Inserting the card into that slot only shows the first four lanes. NVMe speeds are so high that RAID0 isn't useful except for very demanding servers. Just run the drives as usual.
