Considered further and had an idea. PCIe 3.0 x4 equals PCIe 2.0 x8. On my B350 motherboard (Asus ROG Strix B350-F Gaming), could I change it to PCIe 2.0 and divide it into two x8 or keep it as x8/x4? It doesn’t matter for your setup—just two GTX 650 Ti cards boosted by superclocks, not high-end graphics.
Technically, the lanes and bandwidth differ in their implementation. A PCIe lane can run at its highest rating or an older version, meaning your motherboard might support 3.0 mode, 2.0 mode, or 1.0 mode. A PCIe 1x slot can deliver speeds of 3.0, 2.0, or 1.0 depending on the configuration. PCIe 3.0 4x isn't equivalent to PCIe 2.0 8x.
