Hello there! I checked the manual for the MSI XPOWER GAMING AC and saw it mentions up to 44-lane PCI-E. It seems the documentation might be a bit old since those boards originally came with 44-lane PCI-E CPUs. Regarding your question about SLI, what graphics cards were you considering?

It seems uncertain about the details, but the 2070 super from NVIDIA appears to be the least powerful GPU capable of supporting NVLINK SLI.

I reviewed the compatibility section on the support site for the motherboard. It shows a 2070 with a maximum rating of 1 for Multi-Graphics Technology. This list is very useful for checking compatibility and identifying compatible components, including RAM.

It seems the RTX 2070 Super can only be used with 2-way SLI, and it's unclear if the RTX 2000 line supported more than two GPUs.

The 20 series GPU is limited to 2-way communication. I need to drop below that for 3-way functionality. By then... I guess it makes sense to switch to a higher-end GPU, though that wasn’t the point you were here about.

Pascal handles 3 or 4-way operations effectively, but works best with 8x configurations.

WS x299 SAGE appears capable of handling 48 lanes. GPUs with ample VRAM likely make PCIe lane usage less critical, reducing the impact of the 8x16 configuration difference.

Hello everyone! A lot of details here. The reason behind the SLI config/question was to configure several 4K monitors... but I'm curious if it's really necessary. Perhaps we could just run the cards separately and allocate monitors between them? Not sure, maybe better to bring it up in the V-Card section.

Fewer than four 4K displays are needed. Most GPUs can handle 3 to 4 at the same time. You won’t require a slow PCIe or high-speed PCIe for multiple GPUs. A GPU with an X4 connection will be sufficient for controlling the monitors.
