I'm experiencing frequent BSODs on my PC, which is really frustrating. I tried several modifications to fix the problem but couldn't pinpoint the cause. My original setup consisted of a 3900x x570-I ASUS ROG Strix 980 Pro with an 2TB SSD, 32GB RAM, and a Trident ZXGraphics card. I used an ASUS TUF Fractal Design 650W SFX 80 Plus Gold case, running Furmark and Windows 10. The issue started with a blue screen, initially thought to be due to a PCI-E riser cable, but later reappeared after a week.
I attempted to resolve it by removing all components and running the system in open air, but the problem returned shortly after. Running Furmark alone didn't consistently reproduce it. Eventually, I discovered that hitting the SSD while applying GPU load helped trigger the issue.
After installing a new motherboard (2700X with B550 ASUS Prime) and switching the PSU to a Seasonic unit, the problem persisted for several hours. I tried another SSD with a fresh Windows install, but it still caused crashes within minutes. Switching to a 970 Pro SSD didn't prevent the issue either.
I experimented with different GPUs, including an older 1080 graphics card, but couldn't consistently reproduce the crash. A power supply upgrade helped for a short time, but it was still an ongoing concern.
In the Event Viewer, I saw crashes logged in system files, but the dump creation failed. I installed a second SSD and attempted to use it for mini-dumps, but it didn't resolve the issue.
I suspect the GPU might be the root cause, especially after trying various configurations. I'm unsure what to do next and am worried about the system's stability. Please let me know your thoughts.
Initially the problem appeared during gameplay. Later I discovered a method to recreate it by simultaneously pressing the SSD and GPU. This occurred while gaming but with less intensity.
Ho and yeah in the process I managed to brick my motherboard (waiting for a new one). After a crash my asus booted up in recovery mode asking to insert a usb key with the bios CAP file. Tried multiple ports and waiting but it never resolved the issue, Iread somewhere that I needed to reboot the PC in order for the ezflash to work but it didnt work either now when trying to post the MB is stuck on the red led.
board is cooked atleast you have a board on the way if you still have bsod issues stresstest rams see if theyre unstable both xmp on and jedec (use something like prime95 largeffts) if still bsoding and rams are reporting fine try a diff windows install on a seperate drive ram and mobo are the #1 suspects when your system is doing odd stuff or being unstable, moreso the board as anything weird that isnt ram is almost always gonna be board related
I changed the RAM to the motherboard and CPU. My server had a 64GB kit in the motherboard slot. I also tried the GTX 1080 again tonight and it crashes even more quickly... I noticed that the Ryzen 2700X doesn’t support Gen 4 PCIe, so it was actually running on Gen 3 all along. I don’t know what’s happening anymore. The system feels completely different now, and the problem persists. I also realized I installed the RAM incorrectly at first. Once fixed it, the issue still exists.
What led to the dump file creation failure? Possible causes include RAM issues, SSD problems, or CPU-related errors.
Clearing the CMOS improved the system's stability significantly. I managed to trigger crashes but had to watch around 15 YouTube videos for benchmarking, file extraction, and Steam downloads. I plan to replace the motherboard once it arrives and hope for a smooth installation.
