PC won't start up, and you can't see any lights on the board.
I used my computer and it started up all on its own. After I kept going with it, it shut down after about three minutes and won't turn back on now. What should I do to find out what broke? I am using a ROG B550F Gaming Motherboard right now. When the power is on, the top left ROG light shows up, but no other lights come on. Is that just my motherboard or something else? Please help me figure this out. Some things I tried: - Reseating the RAM sticks - Trying to boot without a GPU - Clearing the battery by taking it off and putting it back in Any advice would be really helpful.
Hi sorry to hear your PC shut down suddenly. Please list all of your system hardware here. Here are some things that worked for me with both old and new PCs. Replace the CMOS battery with a new one, unplug the power supply, hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge the motherboard. Unplug everything again, reconnect all power connections, reseat the GPU and its cables, SSD and HDD cables, and M.2 drives. Make sure every power connector is tight. Plug in the PSU and turn on the switch. Wait a few seconds and press the PC power button. See if the motherboard posts up. It may take a few minutes to boot because the board might retrain the RAM and will turn on and off a few times before finally starting the BIOS. A basic test is to boot the motherboard into the BIOS using just one stick of RAM in slot A1, having your GPU installed, and connecting an HDMI cable for video to your monitor or TV. These steps helped me get PCs that suddenly shut down back to running. No worries, there are people here who can help you solve these issues now. It might also be heat related or overclocking problems causing a sudden shutdown. I hope everything works out well after the problem is fixed. All the best from an old-school gamer and PC builder. Cheers
Here is my build. It took about five years to put together. The only thing I changed two years ago was the GPU because it wasn't working well before. CPU: 5800X Motherboard: ROG B550-F GPU: TUF 3060ti AIO: Corsair h100i Plat SE RAM: Corsair vengeance rgb C18 3600mhz, 16GB x 2 Case: Corsair 4000x PSU: Corsair RM750W
Hi, maybe your CPU needs repasting. Just do this if you feel comfortable or have done it many times before. This is very important because thermal paste usually gets old around every 4 years. If you game a lot or work hard on your PC, you should definitely apply new paste. To start, take out your cooler and gently clean both the CPU and the cooler with isopropyl alcohol. You might also need to reseat (move) the CPU into its socket after cleaning it. Make sure the paste spreads well when you put the cooler back on. There are lots of ways to apply it, but just pick one that works for your PC and gives good cooling power. Let me know if you want help or if something else is wrong with your setup. Please tell us what happened so we can give better advice. Thanks! Other folks will reply with helpful tips. If everything went right and Windows started up after repasting, run a monitoring program to check your temps in real time while gaming or doing tests. Two of my favorites are Cinebench 23 and HWINFO. You might also try the UNIGINE Benchmark programs because they give great scores for current performance. Your PC is pretty good at handling games and work apps. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Have a great night!
Does anything light up or make noise (mouse, keyboard, hard drive, fan)? If so, unplug everything except the power for the GPU, the 24-pin connector, and the CPU line. Then try turning it on. I'll use a low-power graphics card just to see if that's the problem causing the PSU not to turn on.
It all depends on how much electricity is coming through. Before you spend any real cash or hours, I think you should make sure your power source is good. A multimeter can help you check the voltage levels right there. Do you know where exactly to plug it in and what numbers to look for?
