Post but no boot means the hardware is fine except for maybe the drive. Possible the PSU went kaput in the interim I suppose. Most likely the data on the drive or the CMOS battery. Was the thing plugged in for that month? Maybe check the date the computer is reporting.

The motherboard was purchased in late 2020, so the CMOS battery should be okay. The PC was turned off for a month—would it still start if the power supply was faulty? It still occasionally boots randomly and can run with an external Windows drive. Appreciate your help!

The battery lasted about a month while maintaining the CMOS. Lithium cells degrade if their voltage falls below 2.5 volts. It’s possible this occurred. Do you own a multimeter to check the voltage? A healthy reading should be near 4 volts and last at least a day.

The motherboard was bought in late 2020 and used regularly except for one month. Shouldn't CMOS batteries last much longer than that? I don’t have a multimeter. The PC would occasionally boot up and didn’t have problems with incorrect dates/times or driver loading. Once it entered Windows, everything worked properly. Thanks for the advice! If needed, this could be a simple solution to try.

They used to work before rechargeable options existed. CMOS batteries are quite an old design, and battery technology has evolved a lot since their creation. It's simple to inspect and resolve problems if needed. When issues arise, the system clock may become inaccurate.
