You don't have to unless you want to compete against other online players. I use single-player mode. You might be surprised at how well Fortnite works without PS Plus.

They're not safe at all. There are many complaints about extra charges being taken from bank accounts and similar issues. Only resellers and the official site/steam offer PC games that are also legal. Grey sites are a problem, and keys from those sites might not work or could fail soon. Console games are much more affordable.
