I'm trying to update my computer for better performance with newer games. It's been almost eight years since I installed my first tower, and although I thought I was pretty experienced in the hardware world back then, I don't know what works best now. My current setup includes an i5 4690k, MSI Z97S, 16GB DDR4 RAM (possibly), R9 390 graphics, EVGA 650W 80+ Gold power supply, and a 500GB M.2 SSD (possibly). I have a friend who wants to lend me his MSI B450 and Ryzen 3600 for an upgrade. I'm looking for the best GPU and other components to pair with these parts so I can get the most out of my system without hitting any bottlenecks. My budget is around $300, whether new or used. Thanks in advance for any advice!

For $300 you can usually get an RX 6700XT. It offers great value, works well at 1080p, and handles 1440p nicely. With a BIOS update, it could be upgraded to the 5800X3D in the future, which would be a good upgrade path.

Did you receive RAM? If not, a 32GB DDR4 setup would cost around fifty dollars. According to the previous person, consider the 6700XT; if that's too expensive, perhaps the 6650XT is a better option.

Do you think these cards are really demanding in terms of power?

I’m not currently here, but I think I upgraded to a 16gb DDR4 a few years ago. I wasn’t sure about the current game standards, but it will definitely be something I consider next to the GPU. Thanks!

The 6650XT is a 180W card, possibly up to 200W when overclocked.

16gb is acceptable. Given how affordable RAM is, I usually suggest 32gb. With Ryzen, you should aim for faster memory speeds. It's better to look for something at 3000 or above.
