Pc upgrade
Economical... how much money can you spend, up to the limit?
Your options are restricted because of the platform's age.
You could possibly upgrade the CPU to a Core i7 980.
It's unclear what real improvement you'd notice, but the Passmark score for the 980 is about 11% better than the 950.
A ssd upgrade will be magical if you are now using a hdd for your C drive.
I’d like to adjust my post to encourage more replies about my PC upgrade. I’m in my 70s and mainly use my computer for browsing the internet, watching movies, and doing some basic tasks. My goal is to upgrade to a 4K monitor (AOC 27" LCD). I’m planning to go with the Asus P6T se X58 setup. The specs are: Intel i7, [email protected], LGA1366, 12GB DDR3 RAM, AMD Radeon HD6800 GPU, 650W PSU, AMI 1408 BIOS. I’m aiming for better performance and streaming in 4K, so I need some extra components. Not looking to play games.
Your most affordable choice for 4K is likely a GTX 1030 or Intel Arc 380. Around $100 would cover the newer video codecs for the IntelArc 380. It includes built-in video decoders to handle the older CPU tasks.
UHD video playback faces limited support from streaming services on PCs. UHD Bluray is an alternative, though only Intel CPUs from the 7th to 10th generation currently support its encryption features. I suggest using a 4K Amazon Fire Stick in an available HDMI port on your 4K monitor: https://www.amazon.co.uk/fire-tv-stick-4...B08XVVPXX4. Movies from Netflix, Amazon, Disney Plus, Paramount Plus, and Google Play should work on the Fire Stick.
