PC Upgrade
I purchased a used PC from someone and plan to upgrade its components. My current specs are: GPU RTX 3070, CPU Ryzen 5 2600, motherboard ROG STRIX X470, RAM 16GB DDR4 2133. I’m unsure whether to switch to the new B650 motherboard with an AM5 CPU or go with the B550 and a 5600X CPU. Any advice would be appreciated.
I own the same motherboard; if it's fine, keep it. The B550 will suffice, while the x470 won't save much. I'd go with a 5900x or 5800x3D based on your main purpose. Make sure to update the latest BIOS before swapping the chips and get 32GB of RAM for a smooth experience.
Because of the extra cache, you won't have to worry much about adjusting the RAM settings to get the best performance. The chip should handle 95-98% of the tasks, which is great. This type of PSU is recommended for replacement after ten years, though you can push it further if you prefer.
I’m considering a 3600 RAM setup for the X470. The specs mention support for that speed, but I saw advice suggesting a simpler way to achieve it. The article recommends using the D.O.C.P. option in the Ai Overclock Tuner menu, which automatically sets the RAM speed safely without manual tweaking. Since the manufacturer already programmed the tuning process, this method should give you the full 3600Mhz and optimal voltage settings without needing to overclock yourself. It seems a reliable approach if you're not comfortable with advanced settings.
You might receive a 3600 instead of the 5600 because the 5600 seems unnecessarily high while the 3600 offers a more suitable option.
