my pc frequently stops while playing Siege. It sometimes powers off when things get too hot, even though temperatures are normal. I've updated drivers, put on new thermal paste, and checked the game files—everything seems okay. The main issue might be overheating the CPU, which reached 83 degrees Celsius, but that was within acceptable limits. I'm exhausted from all these interruptions and bans.
my pc specs
cpu - ryzen 9 5900x
gpu - rtx 3080 gigabyte
ram - corsair vengance pro 32gb
motherboard - asus b550 a gaming
storage - samsung evo 980 1tb
psu - corsair rm850x
When the problem occurs, does it ever stop working when starting up? That motherboard lacks a 7-segment error display, yet it has LEDs to show which subsystem failed (they are called Q-LEDs), positioned above the 24-pin power connector on the board. You might also try stress testing each part (CPU, VGA, SSD, memory) separately to identify which one triggers crashes more often. Lastly, it could be the power supply activating its protection features. I've experienced this with a Corsair AX1200i, and after numerous attempts, the only fix was replacing the PSU. This issue can also affect high-quality power supplies, so using a different unit would be beneficial.
It seems the system shuts down completely, like cutting power. For stress testing your components, you might want to try different methods. Since you've built your PC before, lower performance and FPS issues could point to a PSU fault or overheating protection. It's been a year since your last build, and you've noticed consistent underperformance. You're unsure which part to replace, so consider checking the power supply and cooling system first.
The power supply should not lead to performance problems; it will either deliver power within limits or fail, triggering protection and shutting down (similar to unplugging). Overheating might result in both performance drops and shutdown, usually affecting the CPU first, then possibly the VGA. For testing, you can use MSI Kombustor, which works with any OEM and doesn’t require MSI. The "Stress Test" is suitable for the GPU, while a "CPU Burner" option exists for CPU testing. I’m using the same CPU as you but with water cooling. My idle temperatures are about 40°C, and load temps around 72°C. The maximum temperature for this CPU is 90°C, so staying close to that could cause throttling or shutdown for protection.
hey so i ran some tests and here are the findings

i burned my cpu for about 5 minutes and the max temps reached around 80 degrees, couldn't go higher than that.
Absolutely, those readings aren't that extreme. It might be the PSU that's the issue—do you have another available for testing?
i have my brothers psu but it's 650 watts, but i'm unsure how to test it and i wonder if my pc can handle running at that power level.
The PC calculates power usage independently, not relying on the power supply. A higher PSU rating is preferable.
Sure, the volt/watt tester can still be useful even without an extra one.
