The system features an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-core CPU paired with an MSI B450-A PRO MAX ATX motherboard. It includes a Storage Timetec 35TTFP6PCIE 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVMe SSD and a video card from MSI Radeon RX 6600 MECH 2X 8GB. The case is a Zalman T6 ATX mid-tower, and the power supply is a Corsair CX550F 550W 80+ Bronze certified modular unit. I built a couple of PCs last December for myself (for blending) and my son (for gaming). All components matched exactly, but I upgraded from 64GB RAM to 64GB and 16GB RAM on his machine. His system would crash when loading games like COD Black Ops Cold War, Fortnite, or Apex Legends. I checked the internet for possible issues and thought it might be the power supply. After swapping the PSU, the problem disappeared. I performed a direct X test and firmware checks; everything appeared normal. The CPU pressure test showed stability, though the PC shut down during testing. I ran a full stress test with Firmware and confirmed no issues. I also updated drivers but still faced compatibility problems. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but it didn’t work. I’m unsure why certain titles fail despite updates. I’m considering switching to Linux or a different OS, or even a clean Windows install. I’m stuck and really frustrated. Please help me figure this out.
It’s genuinely trying its best to avoid situations that could harm you. I think it’s doing an excellent job keeping you safe. From a more serious angle, it seems there might be a storage problem—like running out of space—and it’s not responding properly. Check the storage drive carefully. If this isn’t related to a driver issue or conflicts with Direct X, it probably needs a gradual test to identify the exact cause.
Thanks for your response. The 1 tb ssd could be insufficient? Hmm... I ran a direct X test today and everything seemed okay. Used Firmware and pressure tested the GPU, did a CPU test too—all came back normal. However, during the Firmware CPU pressure test, the PC shut down, though the Intel CPU tester reported it was fine. Still, I’m not sure what’s going on.
Honestly, the latest GPU drivers are rarely the most reliable. I've experienced more game crashes from driver updates than from not updating them. Usually I avoid updating them for that reason. When things work fine, I tend to stick with them. My mindset is 'if it isn't broken, don't fix it.'
I haven't used an AMD card before, so I'm not sure about their drivers. For NVIDIA, I can usually visit their site and check various drivers and download the one I need.
Thanks, I'll check it out. Another idea came to mind—could it be the SSD itself? It might seem unlikely, but a faulty component could prevent proper communication between the drive and the motherboard. I'm starting to think about simpler fixes right now...
This doesn't seem like a typical SSD or connection problem. It might relate to driver, software, or RAM issues. I’d test with lower RAM speeds to check if that helps. Sometimes unstable RAM can lead to crashes, though usually it causes more severe failures rather than just game freezes. RAM problems are often tricky to pinpoint, so I consider them in cases where I’m not sure what’s causing the issue.
