I've encountered recurring problems where my computer powers off unexpectedly and displays a kernel power error without any apparent cause. The issue has persisted for months, gradually intensifying over time. Initially, it occurred occasionally, then more frequently each week, eventually forcing shutdowns during intense gaming sessions. My first attempt to resolve it was turning the device off overnight, which delayed shutdowns but made gameplay unpleasant. I attempted overclocking both the GPU and CPU, suspecting hardware instability, but the problem remained consistent. I replaced the power supply based on online advice, reset the system thinking a file corruption might be the reason, and it worked temporarily for a couple of days before recurring. After swapping the motherboard, the symptoms worsened even when I wasn’t playing games. Despite running diagnostics—RAM tests, storage checks, updated drivers, and BIOS updates—I found everything normal. The CPU stays under 75°C and the GPU below 72°C; temperatures on the motherboard and SSD are stable, and the power supply isn’t in eco mode. I’m struggling to justify purchasing additional components. It happens both over Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections, and I’m not using any PCIe extensions. My notes mention the power supply and motherboard have been replaced before, yet the issue recurs periodically. Updated January 19, 2024 by Ryfold

The model refers to the EVGA Supernova 650 80 Gold plus modular. The previous power supply was likely from an older design, possibly with a standard PSU. If the system stops, it may be due to the RTX 3070 exceeding the PSU's over-current protection, especially when paired with the RTX 3000-series chips.

I noticed the same problem on the EVGA website, though highlighting didn’t resolve it.
