Hi everyone, after a successful upgrade I couldn't open virt-manager and play emulator games on it. I have BlueStacks in Virt-manager (win10) so I can still enjoy my usual daily sessions. Before upgrading my PC, I had: MSI H510M-A Pro Mainboard with 16GB DDR4 RAM and an Intel Core i5-10400F. Everything worked fine then—I could play all day without issues. After the upgrade to: Ryzen 5 7600X with 32GB DDR5 RAM and B650 Tomahawk Wifi, I keep facing the same problem. My PC shuts off after about 2-3 minutes of opening/playing in virt-manager, then the screen goes black and stays blank for 1-2 minutes before rebooting. I couldn't locate AMD-V but found SVM instead, which I enabled, yet it still doesn’t work. Right now I’m using Linux 6.7.6-201.fsync.fc39.x86_64. I’m unsure what might be causing this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Did you transfer your SSD during the upgrade or start fresh by deleting and rebuilding Windows?
I transferred my SSD, and I use Fedora 39. I run Windows via virtual manager so I can play Bluestacks from there.
Hey there! Are you encountering a system crash? Do you see a black screen or a kernel panic? You might want to consider a clean installation. Also, double-check that your RAM is functioning properly—especially on Linux.
It’s a situation where your system freezes and displays a black screen even though it’s still active, with fans running. After a short period, it restarts automatically. Your RAM appears to be functioning normally, and memory testing confirmed no issues.
Replace the power supply unit since you didn't specify one—it seems it might not be strong enough for the upgraded setup. A more powerful system would likely require additional energy. Other problems probably wouldn’t have caused a crash. The way it powers off and restarts again strongly suggests the PSU has overprotection issues.
KP is essentially a Linux blue screen warning. Here’s some info from the source: https://www.redhat.com/sysadmin/linux-kernel-panic. Your hardware specs look missing. Neither of your CPUs includes an integrated GPU—what GPU are you using? Have you updated it? What power supply unit do you have? What logs appear in your system? How are the temperatures? Usually I’d say yes, but here it’s not fully off—it’s dropping video output and then crashing.
Hi, your RX 6600 GPU is running on a buildapc setup with a max wattage limit of about 350W. You tried a 450W unit with an 80W power supply and the issue continued. Later you upgraded to a 600W ACP-600MPC from a previous build, but the problem persisted. You're wondering if the faulty PSU might be the cause—especially since your old PC never had shutdowns or overheating issues with that model. This is your first time encountering this issue.
This information makes me question my diagnosis. If it was PSU, it would shut down immediately and then restart after a short delay. The fact that fans are still running suggests it's not the PSU issue. It seems like an error occurred, causing video output to be disabled and preventing recovery, leading to shutdown and restart.
Hi, the Ryzen 5 7600x does include an integrated GPU, but I’ve turned it off. My current GPU is the RX 6600, which is identical to my last build and hasn’t been changed. The power supply I’m using is the ACP-600MPC, matching my previous setup and also unchanged. Despite swapping the PSU to the quieter +80 Gold 450W model, the issue persists—temperatures stay around 40–55°C during idle and spike near 80°C when active. I don’t notice any kernel panics from my end.
