PC stopping during gameplay?
Hello! I recently shared my experience regarding the problems I've been facing with my PC. After implementing the suggestions and still encountering issues, I wanted to ask once more with a fresh perspective. I’m not very familiar with computer systems, so I hope this explanation is clear.
About a month and a half ago, I assembled a new PC, but it has started shutting down during gaming sessions like Fortnite. The advice given previously was to replace the power supply unit (PSU). I managed to get a new one—switching from an MSI MAG A550BN 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX PSU to the Thermaltake Smart BX1 750W Bronze 80 Plus. However, even after this change, the system still powers off abruptly, typically between 10 to 25 minutes into a game. Monitoring temperatures showed the GPU reaching up to 90°C and shutting down shortly afterward.
Online searches suggested possible causes like motherboard or GPU faults. My brother recommended replacing the motherboard because it seemed to have limited space for a motherboard speaker, which wasn’t an option. He also mentioned using a tool called GPU Tweak 3 to adjust settings.
Could anyone offer guidance? Should I consider a new motherboard, or focus on the GPU (or both)? I’m feeling uncertain about the next steps after what seemed like the PSU being the main issue. Any advice would be really helpful!

The Thermaltake Smart models may not be up to par, which could be the problem.
I don't believe it's the PSU since the problem kept happening.
It might be that the CPU is getting too hot and turning off. The GPU temperature is at 90°C, which is quite high. Have you checked the CPU temperature?
The cooler might not be installed correctly, or the thermal paste could have been applied wrong.
A possible cause is a faulty motherboard, but it's hard to confirm. Before blaming the motherboard, other parts should be checked.
You could take it to a repair shop and a technician can investigate further.
Computers shut down because of CPU overheating to avoid lasting damage.
Tell me about your situation and how many fans are there for cooling? Which ones are they?
It doesn't clarify the 90C GPU temperature, and why the problem remains the same even with an additional 200w. I'm not suggesting the PSU is strong, but it probably won't lead to shutdowns or overheating. I should inspect the cooler before attempting another component swap.
XFX is suitable for low-quality coolers; otherwise, the power supply matters. Changing a bad supply won't fix the issue. OP, consider removing the side of the case to test.
I understand your suggestion. You could attempt to remove a cover and then use a fan directly on the motherboard to check if it helps.
