It's not a myth. It doesn't reduce the lifespan of the system by turning it off. As soon as you press the power button, the system begins the boot sequence. NOT at the time the image appears—it happens almost in the middle. And definitely not when the Windows boot logo displays. We track the whole process.

It took 54.75 seconds on a 7-speed drive. I accept the delay—it's manageable for me. What bothers me is how slow it was when it first started up.

It takes roughly 17 seconds to boot, using an SSD with Windows 7. The monitor boots slowly, so I often power it on after the desktop.
