Hey everyone,
I’m not sure where to share this.
I own an older gaming PC built by a friend a while back. Right now I’m just trying to get familiar with PCs so I can fix problems, but I’m really new and don’t know what I’m doing.

Here’s what happened:
While playing, my screen went black, and there was a looping sound. I couldn’t do anything except shut it down.
After a few restarts, the BIOS screen appeared briefly, then the display would crash again.
I’ve reinserted the GPU into a new slot and tried both DVI and HDMI connections I provided. Still no display.
The HDMI cable (brand new) has lights on both ends, but they don’t stay lit when connected to the GPU while the PC is running.
I removed the GPU and tried connecting the HDMI directly to the motherboard’s display port. The PC booted into Windows, then went black again. After about three boots I managed to log in, but the screen went dark soon after.
The next time I tried to start up, I could see the BIOS screen through the “snow” lines over the display. I shut it down and restarted, now just “snow.”
I thought my monitor was failing, so I plugged it into a laptop via HDMI—it worked fine.
I also reinserted the RAM and updated the CMOS. Now the PC keeps looping.

My first guess is my old GPU might be dead, but I’m wondering if the PSU could be the issue?
Please help me out.

Specs:
Motherboard: msi z97 gaming 7
CPU: i7 4670k
GPU: Asus GTX 970
RAM: 16GB Kingston HyperX 1600MHz
